Having just discovered this forum I am not sure whether this has already been covered but here goes ..

I am using IE6 and Windows XP. From time to time when I click on a web page link IE6 just closes down. Nothing else crashes and the programme works OK if I open it up again - I don't need to reboot to get rid of any gremlin! It has happened on all sorts of sites and there seems to be no pattern to it.

This is more of an annoyance than anything as I have to find the site I was on all over again.

Anyone any ideas why this is happening and what I can do about it?

    Thanks

    Mike N

Welcome, Mike. Without knowing what you've already tried...

Clear cookies, cache, and history (Control Panel > Internet Options...)

Does this happen with all user accounts on this machine? If not, try logging in with your Administrator account and go to Windows Explorer. Navigate to:

C:\Documents and Settings\someusername and delete the Cookies folder

Next, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\someusername\Local Settings(this is a hidden folder) and delete the History and Temporary Internet Files folders. This gets rid of any files left behind and also allows deletion of the index for each of those folders. Then next time someusername logs in the folders will be recreated.

If that doesn't help, have you scanned for the presence of spyware? If not, check it out: Ad-aware

    Good luck.
