IE5 will not install

My computer is on its last legs. I am having one built in the meantime, mine will not install IE5. I have IE5 on a CD, but my computer will not install it. It does not recoginze that there is a CD in the drive. I know that this version of IE5 works because I have installed it before on this particular computer. I think that my CD drive is going out. Is there anything I can do to get IE to work. I can get online through outlook express, but I cannot read the messages I have in my inbox. When I try to start one of my saved favorites like Yahoo, I get a message saying the protocol is missing

 

If it is hanging while trying to run the ie5setup.exe, try this if you can. Use Windows Explorer and copy all the files onto your hard drive, then run ie5setup.exe from there. I have the full IE 5.5 SP2 on mine and it occupies about 35mb.

If you don't mind my asking. Where did you DL IE5.5 SP2? All I can find is the auto install version. I would like to save it to disk.

I have IE6 SP1 on CD from MS and also keep it on my computer for faster install.

It is in the way you run the setup program. You would choose Custom Install, you will see a button called Advanced, click on it and you will see a window pop up. Check the box to Download and run Setup Later. This will download the full install. When you run ie5setup later, it will not need an internet connection.
