Hi, i have a problem: since this morning, when i try to open a 2nd IE page with another page already opened, or when i try to open a site that has pop-up ads, i get the following error message:

    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

    Runtime Error!

    Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. "

and then when i click "OK," it closes my page(s). Can anybody help me with this problem?

i'm using IE 6.0 & win XP home.

    thanks a lot!

You probably have e2g spyware on your PC or something very similar.

I'd run Ad-Aware (download, install, update, run) several times and delete all it finds. The run Spybot (same download, install, update, then run) and get rid of any it flags in red and IDs as spyware. Then immumize using the button of that name.

Glad it got you cleaned up.

I highly recommend running both it and spybot. And running both about once a week.

How many spyware thingys did it find and clean for you? Usual if you run it the first time is 100-200 or so.

Hi, it’s me again, with similar problem. I got rid of the problem last time by running Ad-Aware, but now the problem reappears again. I ran both Ad-Aware & Spybot, but the problem is still not solved.

Basically, now the problem is: when I try to open my homepage, which is googles.com, on the left side of the page appears a small rectangular window (it’s the same size & takes the same place as the "Favorites" or "Search" window) titled "Whistle Software." Underneath the title, in the content box, it says "Updating News & Weather Please Wait…" I don’t know where did I get the "Whistle Software" & I can’t get rid of it. And whenever this window appears, I get the following error message:

    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

    Runtime Error!

    Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

    abnormal program terminationâ€

and then when i click "OK," it closes my page(s). Can anybody help me with this problem?

i'm using IE 6.0 & win XP home.

    thanks a lot!

Not much available information on this thing. The little I find isn't anything I like though. Their privacy statement (or lack-of-privacy statement) Here isn't real thrilling.

I've sent an inquiry email to a spyware-guide.com in hopes that maybe they know or can find out how to deal with this thing. Meanwhile, start~run~msconfig and see if it's in your startup section. If so, uncheck it and maybe it won't bother you while we figure out some way to deal with it.

Moving this to the virus/etc. section.

    Hi cstdc555,

We were happy for a few days, weren't we?
    Thanks to ad-aware?

    I have some questions.
After running ad-aware to solve to first problem did run it again before the second problem appeared?

From the link that Newt gave, Whistle Software is a program for getting updates on New, Weather, Stocks, etc. It is generally considered to contain spyware.

Somehow some parts of that program is removed or damaged, possibly by Ad-Aware. When that Whistle Software is launched (I don't know how, when or by which program), it couldn't fully launch because of the missing or damaged files. A C++ runtime error occurs iexplorer.exe which causes "abnormal program termination ". Please, this is only my opinion.

If you can't remove or uninstall that program normally, you might have to remove all traces of it in the registry. Newt said to check msconfig first, good idea. For registry checking please can someone else help? It's not my strong point.

Sorry this is not actually an answer to your problem.

seeing as how you've run Adaware and Spybot you could post
a hijackthis log,, it'l let us see all startups and we might be able to spot some things our anti spyware utilities have missed.

Post a log from HijackThis so one of the experts can see
    what's going on.
current version 1.97.7 dont forget to also keep it updated.
If you've used it before please dont have anything excluded

    Get it here
    http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
Unzip, to a permanent folder,double-click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan ".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet. close hijackthis.

Newt, goddez1, leeleeleelee, Lonny Jones, Thank you all who tried to help me.

i finally got the problem solved by trying some of the methods you guys told me, so i finally deleted everything (hopefully) that has anything to do with the whistle program. it took me 2 hours because i had to restart my computer many times while doing this.

anyways, the problem hasn't occurred yet today. i hope i can get rid of it forever.

thank you ag/n, & happy holidays!!!

If not, a HijackThis scan (a la Lonny) and post the results.
