Whenever I open a site it will not close. The only way I can close anything is with ctrl/alt/del. I have Windows XP. Someone suggested I download the patch for IE but that didn't do any good. Help please.

    Do you have Spybot ?

Sounds like you may have picked up one of the little nasties that try to tell you how to run your browser.

Dowmload Spybot and run it twice and see what it finds.

Also is your antivirus software up to date?

"Whenever I open a site, I cannot close it. "

    Basic questions:
    1. How are you "open "ing sites?
    2. How are you trying to close them?
    3. When you do try to close them, what do you see happening?
