I am also experiencing "freezing" with IE7 on certain websites, specifically www.adobe.com. My laptop is running Vista Home basic with IE7. About 3 weeks ago, I tried to access the Adobe site to check for updates. When I get to the site, IE7 freezes and CPU usage goes to 100%. The only way to restore useability is to end process using task manager.

I have disabled add-ons, uninstalled Flash, uninstalled Adobe reader, tried Microsoft's infamous 4 step debug process. By doing Microsoft's step 4 which is resetting IE7 to original values (no add-ons) I can access the Adobe site and download the software if desired.

When I begin to enable add-on's, one by one the site will suddenly freeze. I think "hooray, I've found the culprit ", but not so. Disabling the last add-on does not restore functionality. I have tried changing the order of add-on's which I enable and still experience the problem.

A Google search regarding this problem yields many instances of this problem but I have yet to find a solution.

In a frustrated state, I come to this group seeking assistance. I shall appreciate any suggestions and I am willing to try anything.

This is an addendum to my original post.

I uninstalled Flash V9 and installed Flash V8. No success, so I think what this is telling me is that some setting is getting changed immediately after you enable add-ons, any add-ons, not necessarily Adobe.

Does anyone have a suggestion or suggestions?

    Many thanks.

No suggestions, but you clearly have a problem with an add-on.

I (as I'm sure many others) have add-ons loaded & enabled & can access the Adobe site just fine. FWIW - I have Flash 9 loaded.

This problem is occurring on a laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic.

I have not tried Firefox..........yet. I guess that my frame of mind is that there was no problem initially with IE7, so find and fix whatever it is now and not "reinvent the wheel. "

Apparently it is clear that add-ons are the root cause of the problem. However, loading IE7 with no add-ons does not solve the problem, only by a total reset.

    Thank you for your comments.

It is cigar time for me!!! Problem solved!!!

Solution: on IE7 menu, select PAGE, select TEXT SIZE

Choose "medium ", "smaller ", or "smallest." These DID NOT cause IE to freeze. When I select larger or largest, IE7 freezes.

Note: On a wheel mouse, if you desire larger type, hold down control key and scroll the wheel upwards. Downward decreases text size. Once you are on the Adobe website, increasing text size through this means does not cause IE to freeze.

I hope my solution is the very one that you guys need.

    Thank you for your inputs.

    Hope that's the answer.

No problem here viewing Adobe's site in any text size or magnification.
