IE hangs as well as Netscape, when trying to access a web site the hour glass comes up and thats it. I still have an internet connection, I can get e-mail and ping. Tried uninstalling IE and re-installing. Win 98.

I have copied this post to the Netscape forum with an edit.

I don't think it is a problem with either browser - more likely a Windows problem.

Can you tell us if this happened suddenly or has been ongoing.

If this happened after a Windows update I suggest you uninstall those updates.

I would normally suggest running the usual spyware/malware eradicators - Spybot and AdAware, plus Cwshredder. Obviously you can't download them if you don't have them, but if you have them run them.

A reinstall of Win 98 over the top of your existing install may be the ultimate solution, but hang back on this for further responses to your post.

    That's what I thought.

    Suddenly

    No updates

I have 3 other PCs on a home network which work ok so I can download Ad-aware & Spybot.

    Ugh!

OK, here are the URLs if you don't know them .....

    Spybot
    AdAware
Cwshredder right at the bottom of the page.

Update Spybot and AdAware before you run them to download the latest definitions (aka virus definitions) and run Spybot before AdAware.

Have to ask, but have you antivirus and firewall running?

If running these has no effect post back - a few more suggestions to consider.
I did this several times when running 98SE and didn't have any problems.

Ad-aware/Spybot fixed the problem. Lots of "Xupiter" entries.
    Thanks!
