I are going throug a number of machines some I am upgrading some become parts. One consistent problem I am encountering. That of trying to identify the motherboard. One in particular has me boggled it looks like it has a backwards RU logo but I am unable to find any number or letter combination that would be a model. Is there any standard to identifying motherboards or is each different. Is there any utility like Aida or something that will tell you what the motherboard is?

AIDA 32 and Everest Home will reveal that information.

Not really, I haven't poked my nose too close to that many motherboards.

If You can find a computer model number, go Google on it.

If a physical examination of the motherboard reveals a number that might be some kind of model number, go Google on it.

Thanks that is a really great site. I think if I can find the manufacturer of this board I am in really good shape. I will do some checking this evening and may have some good info before my next post.

If it does not have any obvious markings, it may be printed in small lettering on the edge/corner of the motherboard.

It may be an OEM motherboard, although if it is still in the case it should should be emblazoned (wow, hope I spelt that right ) somewhere. If it is OEM use it for parts and throw the motherboard away :) .

If you can get to a POST screen you may be able to identify it from the BIOS number which should appear at the bottom of the second screen.
