Have a Toshiba 1405-S151 notebook with XP. It came with a CD-RW/DVD-ROM model # SD-R2212. I bought a Toshiba slim DVD burner model # SD-R6472. Thought I would just swap them. After the swap I get the following message at boot. (IDE# 1 Error) Then after awhile the system will boot, but do not have the use of the DVD drive. The drive does not show in the device manager or my computer. Checking both the primary and secondary IDE channels in the device manage show that are working properly. The drive does not have any jumpers on it. I rechecked all the connections and they are OK. Was looking for ideas to get the drive to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Update I put back the CD-RW/DVD-ROM and everything works OK with that drive installed. Do you think there could be something wrong with the DVD burner?

I've never seen a drive w/out jumpers. My notebook drives have jumpers at opposite ends of the ide connection, the opposite side of the drive itself.

    TonyT,
Thanks for your post. Looked all over the drive and there are no jumps, just holes for mounting and for the IDE cable. The CD-RW/DVD-ROM also doesn't have any jumpers either. Just to see what would happen, I didn't put in the DVD burner or CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive and booted the system. That gave me the same error I got when I had the DVD burner installed. (IDE# 1 Error). To see two views of the DVD burner. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Showi...lack+IDE+Slim+DVD+Burner+Model+SD-R6472+-+OEM Also on the label on the drive just shows what the pins are for that connects to the IDE cable and nothing about jumpers.

Toshiba support said that this drive is incompatible with my notebook. Who would of thought that Toshiba's own drives will not work in their computers. Now I'm off to see if I can return the drive.
