Does anyone know of a free "quick and dirty" diagnostic for an IBM type 2336 Thinkpad.

I tried to use my PC Doctor but am told my version won't work on this unit. This is a friend who, like so many users, has run out of warrenty and can't find any of the original CD's etc.

FYI, the problem(s) are her printers don't - no error messages but they both show as printing. She has two different printers with two different configurations - 1 direct and one wireless.

At the same time her internet connections (1 wireless and one DSL) have both stopped. No error messages except that the browser indicates page not found for any URL.

Although I have another diagnostic I wanted to try (Troubleshooter) it's on a floppy and the unit has only a CD.

If worse comes to worse, just back up as much data u can and reinstall the OS. When i mean worse comes to worse is when u are ready to take a sledgehammer to the computer.....or something to that extent. =^_^=

    An Answer I Never Expected

The problem's solved, but with an answer I never expected (But problably should have).

Acting on my suggestion, the lady called her ISP (Comcast). he asked her had she installed the last MicroSoft security patch, to which she answered yes. He had he revert to just beyond that time (in effect removing the MS "upgrade ").

Yep, both problems are gone and the unit is on the air. I can see how her browser (IE) could be affected, but the printer?

I would assume that with the speed the Comcast tech got her through this, it must have happened more then once.

Thanks all for your time and efforts! I'm too old and falling behind in this stuff, butcan't one of you young pups come up with a compatible operating system that really operates and gives MS some competition?
