Hyperterminal is simply a utility that can be used to "talk" to some devices. If you have modems connected to a pair of PCs you can use hyperterminal to start a session on PC-B from PC-A via the modems using hyperterminal and transfer files.

You can do the same sorts of things with telnet as well.

This modem will allow connections from either hyperterminal or telnet but unless you know what things you want to do and the specific command strings to do them, it won't help you much.

Can you give details about what you need to do?

A note of your operating system would be useful too, as there can be variations between version. Also don't forget to look at the help system within hyperterminal!

So you want to test that your modem is working by using Hyperterminal! That brings back memories. To be honest, I can't remember the call you use in hyperterminal. You use an AT command, but which one ...... this website seems to have the information you are looking for.

However, there is a far easier way of doing what you are trying to do I think. Find the modem in device manager (devmgmt.msc) and double click on it to get to the properties screens. Go to the Diagnostics tab and click on the "Query Modem" button. If you're modem is working/configured correctly, you'll get a list of information from the modem. This is the same information as doing the fabled diagnostic AT command within Hyperterminal. If you get a failure, the PC isn't seeing the modem correctly.
