I just got a new computer with Windows 7 64 bit OS. When trying to download the driver for my scanner it says the driver won't work with Windows XP 64. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results. Microsoft says my scanner is compatible with Windows 7, HP says the driver is for Windows 7 64 bit, so why is it impossible to install a driver? Any advise would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes PeteC, these are the drivers I tried. Both basic and full feature, when this didn't work I would uninstall and try again with the same results. It shows that it cannot load on a Windows XP 64 OS. I did try downloading the Windows XP 64 driver and in the error box it stated cannot load with a 610 64 OS.

Very strange - from the no. of posts on the BBS it would appear that there is a real problem with HP printers.

I wonder if Win 7 has native drivers on board? Have you tried going through the Add a Printer wizard in Devices & Printers and, if the printer is not listed under HP hit the Windows Update button which will download more Windows 7 drivers.

I have only had my computer for 10 days and one would think an HP Compaq would have HP drivers. Updates for Windows are installed regularly and when trying to install through devise manager it states cannot find driver will look online. It takes me back to the HP drivers I have already tried with no success. I asked HP support about this and 4 days ago they said they would contact me, still waiting. I tried my original scanner install disc but it doesn't do anything because it doesn\t support Windows 7.

I just tried this info from the link you gave:

    1. Start Menu
    2. Control Panel
    3. Programs & Features
    4. Run programs made for previous versions of Windows
    5. Run Troubleshooting Wizard

After getting down to run trouble shooting wizard, which I did, it stated my program was incompatible. My scanner is less than 2 years old and worked great, I don't want to buy a replacement.

It's round and round in circles - MS Compatability states that the scanner is compatible with 7 x64 - Free download required. Clicking the link leads to the HP page referenced in my earlier post. What else can one do except hammer away at HP who clearly have an issue with their driver.

No need for a replacement scanner - take a look at Vuescan - there is a free trial and the G3110 is compatible

I must have glossed over that - I use Vuescan on a Nikon Coolscan IV and no driver was required or maybe Windows looked after that - it was a year or so ago!

Edit - Vuescan included a driver.

Thank you Windows BBS for coming through for me again. I downloaded and saved the driver installer then used the info from the previous posting of using other OS's and it worked. I now have my scanner back and still have WindowsBBS in my favorites for future needs. Thanks again for being such a great help.
