    Hi guys,

Trying to get a printer going, but not really sure what's wrong with it. It's not a new printer, but it worked fine before and suddenly stopped working properly, and just prints out blank pages. I've done an extended test page print and it works fine. Have just uninstalled and reinstalled the software and drivers, but nothing worked. Cartridges are new and worked when first put in, but no longer work.

It's a HP Deskjet 3000 setup through the wireless network, have also tried it via USB cable.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Chris

UPDATE: Have just tried printing something using 'Plain paper, Best quality'. It printed but very faint, switched back to regular and it didn't print anything. Any ideas?

I would call HP if the diagnostics do not help.

It's a J310a I believe. Am not there at the moment so unable to check.

The printer cartridges are 3rd party one from Asda that will have been refilled, so I think the cartridge meter being stuck at empty is stopping the printer from using it. However, the other colour ink cartridge is the same, but it prints fine in colour.

    Thanks

James Martin if it's out of warranty HP will either charge for the support call or they will try to sell the caller a new printer.

    Understood.

I'm a Canon man myself, and they are always willing to assist me regardless of the warranty or not.

    HP must do things differently.

James Martin HP usually takes of me when I call. Been fixing and recommending their products for a long time. But thanks for that info. I might look into a Canon printer the next time I'm in the market for a printer.

Yeah, have been hearing a lot of good things about Canon of late… Might have to look into them when my HP Photosmart C4780 packs in. (Still going strong ATM though :))

Their call center is located in Virginia (I think), and you actually get to talk to very informative Americans instead of hard-to-be-understood foreigners.

Although as a 'Brit' I think that the American accent is annoying... (No offence!;) :p) And I wouldn't want to get into a 'color' vs. 'Colour' debate..

    P.S. It's Colour... :D

    I didn't know you were a Brit.

Anyway, come on down below the Mason-Dixon line and you will get real annoyed. It's all country talk down here. (cheer instead of chair, etc. :D)

They are very helpful with printers and other items such as digital cameras.

    That is something to consider.

My old Canon i560 had separate ink tanks, and it was not too pricy to replace them either. However, the print head eventually wore out, and a new one cost about as much as a new printer.

I think Kodak still sells separate ink tanks.

My Brother has separate tanks for black, red, blue & yellow, and they are much less expensive than I used to pay for HP ink, and seem to last a lot longer.
