My machine is an HP with P4(2.6GHz,400MHz FSB). I was given a Dell Dimension 3000 (P4,2.8GHz 533MHz FSB) for parts. Both machines are socket 478. Are the internals( PSU,mobo, etc.) interchangable. Don't want to just start switching and maybe mess something up.

It would probably be good if you do the research yourself. It will increase your experience.

Do websearches for the motherboard model numbers and add the term "specifications ". You can look them both up at the manufacturer's website.

Changing from a 2.6GHz to a 2.8Ghz CPU would not be worth the effort of changing the thermal compound between the core and the heatsink. Replacing the CPU with another (used) CPU and changing the thermal compound would be the most "complicated" part.

Are the RAM modules the same type? For a quick check you can take one module out of each PC and see if the "notch" matches between them. That still doesn't mean they are compatible. If they match, you can try them.

Adding the spare HDD should not be a problem. You will need to look at the jumper settings, since they are probably IDE HDDs.

Research any other hardware and you will need to find it's drivers.

Find out for yourself. Research, you won't find somebody doing the same "integration ", but you need to find out about the hardware.

HP vs Dell, I would prefer to build my own computer, sorry :D
