I have a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2 mouse. I am getting a message to uninstall the software and reinstall it on boot up. I went to add/remove programs and there is no change/remove option on the entry. I then went into Windows explorer and removed the directory. Then I reinstalled and I got a message before it finished that it was already installed and I had to remove it first. What can I do to remove this and reinstall it?

You have some not so much fun work ahead of you.

Did you restart Windows after doing that ?

After doing that and making sure there is not more than one directory ( yes, it is possible if more than one install was tried.)

You will more than likely need to run something such as RegSeeker ( which someone can help you find ) to clean up the registry.

Or you can run REGEDIT and a FIND for IntelliMouse and manually clean up. I think you will be amazed at how may entrys in the registry there are.

If you do run RegSeeker. Run it and then restart Windows and run it again.

I had to do this and I did have the entry in add/remove ( which did not work either ).

Did you do a " Find in the Registry "

Or did you tell it to " Clean the Registry "

If you did indeed delete the files then RegSeeker should have come up with many references to either Obsolete or invalid items. If you used " Clean the Registry "

If the install comes up with the message " that it was already installed" then it is in the registry somewhere.

Deleting the files does not take it out of the Registry.

I did a search for 'IntelliMouse' and regseeker did not find anything. I also opened regedit and did a find and did not find it that way either.

The message is in the jpg below.

I believe the message in the thumbnail verifies my thoughts.

As far as the system goes it is seing it in the Registry.

Try using Regseeker and tell it CLEAN the Registry.

We will then take it from there.

Do not be surprised if it it not 'IntelliMouse' in the Reg.

    PS.
This IS NOT a fun job.

Regseeker did not do the job. You were right it was something else. It was "IntelliPoint" and I cleaned it out using regedit/find. It is reinstalled now and I thank you very much.
