For some reason all the areas where I can change my homepage settings in the tools / internet options / general tab are greyed out. Any ideas how I can get these options back?

Tiffany--There are several possible solutions. The simplest is to click on Tools (on the IE menubar)|Internet Options|Programs tab and then on Reset Web Settings.

  3. to hide this advert.

If that doesn't work - and you are on an NT/2K/XP Pro system, you may be logged in with a user account that does not have sufficient rights on the PC to make the changes.

Tiffany--Sorry the simplest did not work. Here are three more ideas.
    1) have you scanned for a virus?
    2) Click Start|Run, type in MSCONFIG, click OK and click the StartUp tab. Do you see any strange programs? Tell us what they are. Or just report your whole StartUp list.
    3) Do a search for Host. If you find any files named Host, but not Host.sam or other .sam files? Change the name on it/them, like call it Ghost. See whether your Internet Options|General tab now allows you to change your home page.
(You can always change the name of those Ghost files back to Host, if no progress.)
Perhaps I should I have put this in my first post. What is the URL of the homepage you are presently stuck with?
