I have a desktop pc with printer connected to it. This pc is running XP.

I have recently purchased a laptop, running Windows 7 starter.

I would like to print from the laptop to the printer connected to the desktop. However, the printer won't connect.

I have tried several sets of instructions, but must be missing something.

What incremental tests can I do to see where things got ******* up? How can I get something printed from the lap top?

What brand of printer? I had trouble with mine (not understanding what I read==lol). Called the Printer manufacture and they had me up and running in about 2 minutes and it works great. Felt so dumb after I called and seen what I had read and she walked me thru it. :D

    Basics:

    1. The printer must be compatable with Windows 7.
1a. You will need Windows 7 drivers for the printer.
    2. The printer must be set as shared on the comp it's connected to.

    What brand and model printer?

The printer is an HP Officejet 6210 All-in-one. I will get the printer drivers for the laptop (Windows 7).

Under the printer properties, I changed the sharing tab to 'Share this printer'. Is there any more that needs to be done?

    Thanks

    From HP site:
Just set the printer to shared on the other comp and in Win 7 add the networked printer.

On the desktop, the printer properties show that the printer is shared.

When on the laptop (Windows 7), I try to add the printer the following error is received-

    Connect to Printer
Windows couldn't connect to the printer. Check the printer name and try again. If this is a network printer, make sure that the printer is turned on, and that the printer address is correct.

The printer is on. I believe the address is correct.

Try browsing for the printer. If you can't sdee the desktop & its printer on the network then typing the correct name won't matter. You must enable File & Print Sharing on the windows 7 comp to see the printer on the network.
