HijackThis Log "PLEASE" review.

Here is my log although nobody responded to my first query I think this is what I should do.
I have run the updated Ad Aware SE and Spybot S&D many times and only occasionally do they come out clean even when I run and reboot them one right after another. I also repeatedly run Housecalls and I ran CWShredder. It showed up clean but when I ran Ad Aware SE It found many CoolWeb things.

I dunno!!

Open CWShredder from the new shortcut on the desktop, close ALL other windows and click fix.

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

Go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and OK. DO NOT allow restart.

Download Pocket Killbox from here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Unzip the files to a folder, then open and double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

C:\DOCUME~1\CIRCUI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\32.tmp.exe

Check the box to delete on reboot and click the red X to the right. Click OK, then NO to reboot now. Copy the next filepath and paste it in the box, and repeat the above steps. When all of the below filepaths are done, allow it to reboot.

When your computer restarts, it will be in safe mode. Logon to your username.

Now in safe mode, you will need to show hidden files and folders, as well as system files and extensions for known file types.


Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open the control panel, then internet options and delete the temporary internet files, checking the box for offline content. Click the Security tab, then highlight Trusted Sites and click the Sites button. If *.frame.crazywinnings.com is present, remove it. Click the programs tab and then the button to Reset Web Settings. Close Internet Options. Then, still in the control panel, open the Java Plug-in, click the cache tab and then clear.
Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and click OK.
Uncheck the /safeboot box in msconfig and ok to reboot

Back in Windows, click start>Windows Update. Accept all critical updates.
Reboot and go back to Windows Update until there are no more criticals offered.

Go to the Sun Java Website and update your JRE. Current is 1.4.2_07

Scan your PC with RAV. If any files are infected, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

Download HijackThis.exe Version 1.99 from here, over-writing the one you currently have. Run another HijackThis scan and post the log.

OK I got as far as rebooting out of safemode and when it rebooted a window popped up with system configuration utility. I went to the general tab and chose ataart up normally.

I hope that was the right answer..

Now I went to windows update and it can't get anything but a blank page and can't find the page. I typed microsoft.com into the address bar and res://hghcp.dll/http_404.htm keeps coming up. But I can go anywhere on Netscape 6.2.

What now. I am on another computer right now.

Now what?

Should have just checked the box to not show or run the system configuration utility and clicked OK, but no harm done.

If you fixed this entry;

open HijackThis to the misc tools section, click the backups tab and locate that entry. Highlight and click restore. Reboot.

Download AboutBuster from the following location.

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/AboutBuster.zip

First unzip all files from the zip folder to a folder on your desktop. Open and double click AboutBuster.exe, click ok, then update. A new screen should popup. On that screen click Check for Updates. If it says it found an update click Download Updates. If it doesn't, it will automatically tell you and exit. Now run the program. Reboot when finished and run again.

Then try Windows Update again.

 

OOPS!!!

I accidentally downloaded another hijacker over the old one and lost my back-ups!!

Can I fix that or did I royally mess up??

Open Internet options in the control panel, click the connections tab. If using dial-up, highlight your connection in the window and click settings. Uncheck all the automatic configuration and proxy server boxes. Click OK. Then click the LAN settings button and uncheck all the automatic configuration and proxy server boxes. OK out. See if you can connect.

Is it just the windows updates site that you're having trouble accessing? Does the machine get an internet connection? If so, run AboutBuster and post a new HJT log.

 

Yesterday I ran Spysubtract and it found 15 thing and got rid of all but 9 coolwebearch things. I ran it 2 more times but to no avail. They are still there.
Today I ran AboutBuster and it said it took off 5 Items but IE still doesn't work. It still gives me the same error: res://hghcp.dll/url_error.html


As far as the dial up - This is a client machine on a network that access the internet via satalite. This is the only one that is acting up! I know the machine is accessing the internet because I can get here on Netscape.

Check for updates to Ad-aware.

Download Remv3.zip and extract the files to their own folder.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

Empty the recycle bin and reboot back into Windows.

We are getting there I am sure!!
Oh Yeah When I do the Ad Aware scan an AVG screen pops up and says there is a virus found: Trojan horse downloader.Agent.BO Sounds bad
But I can't get AVG to get rid of it with any of the options and neither will Housecalls apparently.

 

Well after we talked last night I was able to download
MW Antispyware Beta --It found one thing and deleted
Internet Explorer 6 SP1
Service Pack2
And Windows sp2 updaate

NOW-- I can't click on anything and Dr watson postmortom debugger has encountered a problem and has to close.

This is the problem I had before I found you and uninstalled sp2 to try and fix it.

I know I can run in safe mode though.
So should I do that?

If you can get this on a floppy from another machine, download this zip and transfer it to the affected machine. You can do this in safe mode if necessary.

Unzip it to the desktop. It will not work if you run it from inside the zip. After unzipping open the pv folder. Double click on the runme.bat. A dos window will open. Select option 1 for explorer dlls by typing 1 and then pressing enter. Notepad will open with a log in it. Copy and paste the log into this thread. Usually pretty large and take more than one post. Also, select option 6 for Appinit contents and post that log. (you can save them to floppy also)

If you can get this zip file, save it to and extract the files on the machine (will also fit on floppy). Double click RemoveDomains.reg and allow to merge, then ResetDomains.reg and allow to merge.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

I am running the MW Antispyware again but i have not figured out how to save a copy to the floppy yet. Guess I should ask the 13 year old
He taught me how to use the floppy in the first place!!

Was working on a reply while you posted. Do all that applies.

Click here to download cwsserviceremove.zip Extract to the desktop.

Go to start>run and type services.msc. Locate Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper, right click and choose properties. Stop the service if running, then set to disabled. Click Apply then OK. Close the services window.

In safe mode, close all windows and double click the cwsserviceemove.reg file. Click yes to merge it to the registry.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close all other windows and click fix.

Open C:\WINDOWS and delete the file mspo32.exe.
Open C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the file javavy32.exe.
Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\WINDOWS\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open the control panel, then internet options and delete the temporary internet files, checking the box for offline content.

Open AboutBuster, click start then OK. Exit when finished.

Open Ad-aware and run in full scan mode. Delete all it finds.

Empty the recycle bin.

Reboot back into Windows and post a new log.

 

OHHH I am very encouraged I am on my computer now!! I still can't get IE but I can navigate on my computer.

On the MW Spyware it has windows come up that tells you what things are trying to do and if you want to block that process or allow it.
One of them was a URL was trying to change my home page from google to about;blank. and another couple of things but they disapeared too fast for me to remember them I just blocked all the processes for now I will try to catch them the next time they come up.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close all other windows and click fix.

Download this zip file and extract to it's own folder. Open, close ALL windows, double click the RemoveDomains.reg, allow to merge, then merge the ResetDomains.reg

Merge the CWSserviceremove.reg again.

Open Internet Options in the control panel, connections tab. Click your connection (or LAN button, whichever applies) and uncheck any automatically detect boxes. Click the programs tab and then Reset Web Settings button.

Reboot.

Download SDHelper13.zip. Extract the file to the folder containing your Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy). Open Spybot and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode. Click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it. Click the link below that for SpywareBlaster, download, install and update. Check for updates from time to time. Still in Spybot, click tools in the left pane, then resident and check the box for SD Helper. Then click IE tweaks and at least lock the HOSTS file. Then download and install IESpyads.

That will give you an added layer of protection against unwanted parasites.

Check Windows Update again. Make sure you have all critical updates available.

Post a new HJT log.

Scan your PC with RAV. If any files are infected, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

 

Download the HostsFileReader and unzip, then open. Click Scan for Hosts. The default location is c:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, and will look similar to the below text. (there may also be another like it in I386 folder)

Click each result and then Use Notepad. If you find one with entries other than the above, make note of it's location and save it. Then click Reset Default to replace it and set the default.


Download WinSockFixWinAll.exe to the desktop, close ALL windows and double click to run.

Reboot and see if you're able to complete my previous instructions.
