It has been awhile since I did a backup of one of my folders to CD-R.

I now get a box that asks "Do you want to create a HighMat compatible Cd....

Is this something that was part of one of the XP updates?

If not, I don't know where I got it.

I read a little about the new technology.

Does this mean the CDs I have created thus far are going to become obsolete in the future?

    Thanks

This is what HighMat compatible does. You apparently have the software and a player capable of supporting it. Not being familar with the software, I would assume it gives you an option NOT to use the format. It would have little value for normal backups. Here is some additional information from MicroSoft

Evidently, it is part of Windows Media Player 9. I think I downloaded that update from Windows Update.

I just copied another folder to a CD-R and the message didn't come up. I don't know what triggers it, but it is going to be a nuisance when I do regular backups if it's going to randomly pop up. It didn't come up this last time so I don't know if there is an option to not show that window.

    Thanks for your help.
