Had to think for a bit there on what to call this thread.

I recently downloaded IE6 and noticed a little bug in Windows Explorer. I run Windows 98SE.

When I went to drag/drop, or "copy here" or "move here" in Windows Explorer, I noticed the target is only highlighted as long as the right mouse button is held. As soon as you let it go, the highlighted folder is no longer highlighted. I have seen this on another PC using IE6.

I removed IE6 and went back to my old 5.5 and everything highlights as it did before. Looks like I will eventually have to use 6, so is this a bug or something? Any way to fix it?

All posts VERY welcome on this one. (anything else I should know about 6 that might be a similar nuisance?)

I had to go check that out and I have the same.

    I have Win98FE/IE6.

The reason I had to go check it out is I have not used Windows Explorer for quite some time.

I use a MUCH better alternative called PowerDesk. It is MUCH, MUCH better than Exlporer.

Open it once and get 2 or 3 drives on the screen at the same time. Makes Drag-N-Drop a BREEZE.

BTW the folder stays Highlighted in PowerDesk.

I think you would LOVE it my Friend.

    It is from Ontrack.

I do not believe the better version is free but IS WELL WORTH its cost.

Yes. I HAVE used PowerDesk before, BB.

It is the cat's meow, without a doubt!

Well, now I know I'm not crazy with regard to how installation of IE 6 affects Windows Explorer somehow. That's two of us now.

Anyone else out there at all???? If so, please post. If there's anyone here who knows why this minor bug-a-boo happens, please let me know.

Not only for my sake but for the sake of the people I run into that are just starting out and tend to "miss their targets" as it is when moving things around in Windows Explorer. Sure, you can go the copy/paste route, but why?

Something fishy here. Any good fishermen out there??? :D

LandShark--When I pass my cursor over a file or folder in Windows Explorer, the icon stays highlighted until the cursor passes over another icon. Once I right click on the highlighted icon and drag it somewhere, the original icon remains highlighted (and in place), but a new, somewhat grayed-out, duplicate icon is created in the place to which I have dragged it. Only when I choose "Move Here" does the original icon disappear.
I have Windows set up for single click activation. Could this be the difference? (Or have I misunderstood the question?)

    Welshjim,

    Thanks for the post!

Actually, no, you misunderstood. You are right, however, in what you have posted. Let me explain more thoroughly:

I'm talking about a folder in the left pane turning purple or whatever and staying that way until "move here ", "copy here" or what have you, is chosen. Is that a better explanation? Hope so.

With IE 5.5. on the system, Windows Explorer does just that. With IE 6, it does not. The purple highlight disappears right after you release the right mouse button which can cause some confusion as to whether or not you might have accidently bumped the whole thing up or down one folder before you left-click the command.

    Weirdest thing.
