i am having the exact same problem as this guy http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=36109. The same with me every now and again a internet explorer window pops up with smileys and when i log off i have to close down rundll32.exe manually. It also takes up all the cpu usage. I tried adaware with no luck . With spybot it seemed like it stalled when creating a restore point - so no luck there.
    here is my hijackthis log:

    Hello Welcome to windows BBS
Your running Hijackthis from a temp and it appears it still hasnt been unzipped, neither is a good idea.
Create a new folder, for instance C:\AntiSpyware
Download the exe from here to that new folder.
    http://radiosplace.com/
This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong

Post a new log and someone will be glad to help

also i am having a problem in games with punkbuster :" inadequate o/s privilages ". Looked on google then downloaded this downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder(126)...
its called vx2 finder don't know what it is but its said to cause the problem i just stated. the log i got was:

Then it asks to delete the files it found - should i delete them?

Don't know if the punkbuster and rundll32.exe problems are related? Help would be appreciated. Thanks

EDIT:....hmmmm rundll32.exe doesn't seem to be in processess when i bring up windows task manager??? I don't know if i have fixed the rundll32.exe but now i have the vx2 problem? Also i think i got rid of the 180 solutions because it seemed obvious that was a baddie.

    Hello

Same thing goes for Vx2finder, it need's to be not ran from a temp folder. lets start over , delete both Your vx2finder and vx2finder(26)

    Download VX2Finder(126) (Option^Explicit tools)
    http://downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder(126).exe
    To your my documents folder

Close all Programs that show in the taskbar, Including all browsers,
and stay off the internet until the entire procedure is complete.
Run Vx2Finder(126) click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button.
put checks beside all files found and click the "Delete these Files ",

You will need to reboot for one or more of them, so do so immediately.
When you reboot, use the VX2Finder again,
Click these button's in this order.
"find VX2.BetterInternet ", there should be no files found.
    (if they are available)
"UserAgent$" (Delete the User Agent String>Yes, dont be alarmed, it puts a correct one back
    "Guardian.reg"
    Then Click "Restore Policy "
This will repair the Debug privilege for Administrators that was removed by Look2Me.

You will need to Reboot for the changes to Apply
Run Vx2Finder(26) once more and click on the "find VX2.BetterInternet" button. Then click *make log*.
    Post it here

also Hijackthis needs to be put where i suggested, not on the desktop :)

Start Hijackthis and place a check next to these items,
Close all browser windows and shut down all other programs that show in the taskbar. (even Folders) Then Hit fix checked.

Delete vx2finder, if its ever needed again there will most likely be a new tool.

Replace your hosts file with one from here
Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
