[Help installing] recovery console

    can some one show me how to install
    the recovery console to my hdd.
    ive tried with the xp disk.
    but it tells me
    the os on my disk is older than my operating sys
    i presume it means with all the updates.
    ive tried with out the disk
    by pasting this line d :\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons
    but it gets me to my .adminstration password.
    then i get a line i have to paste in dos
    but it keeps rejecting,
    ive been to microsoft support

    ive tried here

    but i cant seem to get it right

    Remove any and all spaces from this command before pasting this line:
    d :i386winnt32.exe /cmdcons
    You can do that by pasting into notepad, then copying from there and pasting.

    Yes marty , follow Arie's advice.
    Basically since you installed SP2 the SP1 or pre SP install cd you have won't work for such things as installing the recovery console and repair installs.
    You either need to borrow a SP2 install cd, or create your own slipstreamed version, or create it in a folder on the hard drive as the microsoft article suggests.
    Creating it in a folder on a hard drive is the simplest solution.

    sorry i havent replied
    at the moment we are having our elections
    and im a scrutineer for the party i support.
    and it has taken all day.ive looked at the replys briefly
    and i do have the sp2cd
    which microsoft.mailed to me.
    but i need to go ans study
    arie's post so i will have to get back tomorrow
    as im glued to my tv
    watching the voting results

    So the Frank Zappa song reference to the central scrutinizer must be a New Zealand thing; I always wondered about that.
