If I were to install XP Pro on a HDD, then move the HDD to another box, what would I have to do in order for the OS to boot up on the new Motherboard?

maybe do a fixboot command in Recovery Console? :D

The fixboot command or indeed any other recovery console command will not do anything useful it this case. Your easiest solution would be to do a repair install.

There are other ways to prepare XP for the change but I can’t remember them all at the moment. Microsoft have a tool that should do it "˜sysprep’ but you’ll spend days figuring it out. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302577&sd=tech

If the new motherboard has the same chipset as the old and not too much else is different then you may be lucky and Windows will boot ok.
