OK here's the deal. I recently installed a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum Ex. Everything works fine, and according to the "Sound, video and game controllers" heading in Device Manager, everything appears to be functioning.

Here's the problem. When I restart the computer it says a new PCI device has been installed- Fine. Thinking it might be an issue with the sound card, I insert the disk, and reinstall the drivers again. restart- no change. I go back into Device Manager, and under "System Devices" in the "PCI Device" heading I notice the yellow "!" I check the various tabs in the device properties:

General tab. location: PCI bus 0, device 27, function 0. Unknown manufacturer

Device Status: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device. "

    Under details I get this:

    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV2668SUBSYS_A0051458&REV_03\3&13C0B0C5&0&D8

I've tried Roll Back Driver, and Uninstall. Everything related to the soundcard works fine after I do this, but the problem comes back after I restart the system.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks..

It is missing a set of drivers. Plug and Play cannot identify the hardware to tell you what it is. (Maybe what you already know  )

What PCI (Add-in cards) do you have? One thing I think of is that it may be a "voicemodem" for your modem card, in which case the drivers should be on the modem's driver CD.

    Try changing the PCI slot.

Agreed!...in other words, good suggestion

If the soundcard is located in a PCI slot near the centre of the motherboard, change it to a position near the edge of the motherboard (the last slots).
