    Hello everyone,

I would to like to use Group Policy on a stand alone machine running Windows XP SP3 to prevent users (without admin rights) from accessing specific programs installed on the computer, control panels, Windows games etc.

I concluded that I would need to create a new Group of Users, then create a policy with those restrictions and assign it to that newly created group.

I know how to create a group of users and user accounts, what I need help with is in creating the actual policy (script) in Group Policy with the above mention restrictions. I do not want to use a third party software so if this can be all done satisfactorily in Group Policy I'll be happy.

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide to accomplish this...Thanks in advance for your help.

    PS:
I've done an Internet search and most of what I found was for Computers that are part of a domain so it didn't serve my needs.

Use the Local Computer Policy displayed in gpedit.msc under Administrative Templates.

Thank you for your response Arie...I'm sorry, I did a terrible job explaining myself and of course the question, here's a second try with more details...

In Group Policy windows I see the following:

Local Computer Policy (script icon) no option to expand its content

    Computer Configuration
    + Software Configuration
    + Windows Settings
    + Administrative Templates

    User Configuration
    + Software Configuration
    + Windows Settings
    + Administrative Templates

    EXAMPLE:

    User Configuration
    -Administrative Templates
    -Control Panel

On the right of the window, I double click
"Prohibit Access to the Control Panel"
    and click the "enable" button

This hides the Control Panel in the Start Menu which is one of the items I would like to hide from users.

I'm able to make a few other changes there but the question is:
How do I save the policy, give it a name and assign it to the group of my choice?

    Thanks

The policy is saved in the hidden folder %SystemRoot%\System32\GroupPolicy\

Just copy the contents of that folder to the other machine & restart the OS.
