So long my friends on the BBS.

This is my goodbye post.

A message from one Moderator and Admin has stated that only certain people can do certain posts. Though there are no published rules to this that I can see.

Specifically they allege I am not qualified to handle Spy/Adware.

I have seen no where in the rules or even a post that a particular person is the only one qualified to do Spy/Adware issues as neither have I seen anyone appointed to do Network or other issues.

I just thought it was an open BBS.

I will take flack from a member of the BBS like a man. But I will not be pushed around by management here or anywhere else.

Based on these messages I guess the BBS will choose who can do Networking, Hardware issues etc in the future.

I have the skills to deal with any of these and don't wish to be restricted.

So farewell to all.

OK, since you decided to put this 'in the open', I will post here what has been asked from you:

Youâ€™ve already received a PM from TeMerc about this, but you haven’t replied to him, so Iâ€™m just going to make some of the same suggestions.

When you just recently came back to WindowsBBS, it was after an absence of several years. The malware universe has become a rather complicated and difficult landscape to address.

Gone are the days of quick scans with Ad-Aware, Spybot or any other number of vendor apps. Infections have come 'multi-packaged' with combinations varying depending on what time of day you hit sites, which browser you use and even targeting certain vendor applications to avoid detection\removal

It is because of these increasingly specific types of malwares, throwing everything at the infections just is no longer a viable option. Far too many changes are made by these infections, it's not so much simple file downloads. Now we have to deal with tons of hidden registry adjustments, tweaks and 'buddy system' file protections.

Users will in many cases require some fairly specialized tools to remove things and many times need to be done in a specific order to boot.

With those factors in mind, we would love for you to offer help in the Spyware Removal forum, but we think it would serve you when you learn how to attack these threats properly. Learn which tools will find things faster and how they get removed.

There are several schools in a few forums which are great for learning these methods. And quite honestly, with your level of the Windows OS's knowledge as we have come to learn you know of, you will make an excellent malware analyst.
This is currently the best school around: Malware Removal University.

They have an excellent structured teaching regimen and some of the best teachers around. Many of them also do double duty at a couple of the other malware schools such as Spyware Info Boot Camp and Geeks2Go.

While we appreciate your time and effort you spend on the WindowsBBS, we must ask you to leave the Malware fighting over to the experts.

There's no need to put down everything in rules. We just feel that the very specific nature of spyware removal requires more attention & expertise, and we just asked you that - if you like to continue offering advice in the Spyware Removal forum - you get some additional knowledge on the subject.

Too bad you decided to 'walk away' instead.

A very unfortunate circumstance. I can empathize with both points of view and regret that this has come to pass. This whole malware environment has changed significantly and there are indeed some very clever digital delinquents plying their wares to all comers. This has gone way beyond a few mis-guided coders and a bunch of script kiddies - its a business and a very nasty business at that. Cleaning a badly infected system requires special knowledge, special tools and special people who are "plugged in" to special communities.

Mike - I'm going to disagree with you on this one and would suggest that you are doing something just like this hard-headed author has done with regret. And, while I hope you would reconsider after careful reflection I'll understand if you don't or won't. Your presence will be missed.

Arie - Not an easy call, but as the Administrator, you don't get to pick and choose em' like the rest of us can. Thanks for giving us a little more background which makes this an understandable and responsible posture.
