Genuine Windows XP Pro

    I just had a very nice custom system built. While it certainly was not my intention, the guy who built it put a pirated copy of XP Pro SP2 on the system, the same copy he puts on all systems he builds. Of course, I can't get updates from Microsoft's site, and I'm planning to buy it. Here are my questions:

    Do I need to format the disk before installing it? If not, do I need to reinstall my programs after installing it? Are there any other things I need to know?

    You don't need to buy a legit copy of XP.
    First off, contact MS and tell them what occurred. You can even do this annonymously and for your effort MS will give you a legit xp. You will be required to report all info you have re the guy that is using the pirated xp copy though.
