Again struggling with business-sanctioned software. I'm used to using my happy little freeware 20/20 to do captures.

Now I've got to use "FullShot 8.0 professional." How completely cumbersome.

I'm trying to figure out how I capture a square. I mean, there is this freestyle capture tool, but it's just silly. I don't need a kindergarten-round capture of an area on my screen. I just want a rectangular or square shape I can draw around.

Does anyone use this software? The help files tell nothing of being able to do this one simple thing.

    Thanks!

I have a fail safe way of screen capturing.
    1. Click on the "Print Screen" button on the keyboard (hold the alt button down at the same time if you just want to capture the current window). This captures the screen and saves it to the clipboard.
    2. Open your favourite graphic program and paste the result into a new document. If you have nothing else, Paint (in Accessories) works fine.
    3. Use the graphic program to crop the image to what you want (in Paint the easiest thing to go is to select the area you want and copy it into a new document)
    4. Save the result
Works a treat. No additional software, no application having to be run in the background. It just works.

Yes, everyone should follow the suggestion of reggieB.

Use this method to capture error boxes that pop up on your windows and save it for someone to figure out what the error message was.

"There was this window popped up and I just clicked cancel then nothing happens" just won't do. You need to record this information quickly. Wordpad works great to store the captured image as a document.

    ana,

Look for an option to capture a "region ", not sure if that's available in Fullshot.
Sorry your 'stuck' with this program... if you get the opportunity to change, have a look at SnagIt. This is a very good screen capture program. Techsmith offers a fully functional *free* 30 day trial. HTH

I have understood that Anakalia is constrained by the company from using/installing new new programs.
If not, SnagIt is excellent, but expensive. A freebie is FastStone Screen Capture 2.1
    http://www.faststone.org/download.htm
And once the image is captured, an excellent graphics editor is Irfanview
