ftp security

    file uploading with ftp is it safe? Is there a need for ssl ftp( as in server-U) or some other security means( sftp)?

    ftp is not safe. It is wide open. There is however sftp, which tunnels ftp through the SSH protocol. You would need to have an SFTP client. I use one from cygwin on my windows boxes. But cuteftp also supports it.
