I've just tried to update a web site using FrontPage98 (which I've been using quite a while without problems) and it reports:

Server error: Cannot open "we80.cnf "; no such file or folder

I can publish to standard ftp sites but it won't let me publish to a FP site, nor will it let me open that site online.

Any ideas? I've not knowingly tampered with anything connected with FP since it last worked (last month was probably my last update to that site) - the site is available to browse OK, so it's not the online server down.

    Thanks.

Following the help messages led me to one that said I need to update the FP extensions, with a link to MS to get them. Got them and then found I had to install IIS as well. Done all that and rebooted.

Remember, I'm just trying to run FrontPage98 on my local PC to maintain some web sites that I then publish to public servers...

Anyway, FP98 then reported a conflict on port 80. The help page that came up is useless as it refers to the now replaced server software. Playing around with the new apps that appeared in the Administration Tools section of the Start menu has let me resolve the port conflict and get FP to pick up the local web sites. Phew!

Tried to publish the latest changes (which started all this) and got my original message back - SCREAM!!!!

Bright idea! Make the changes with my laptop - also runs FP98 and Win2k - use it to maintain sites whist away from home. Gues what - same no we80.cnf error message.

It looks like something in the recent (last month) of Win2k patches has messed it up. Why doesn't that surprise me?

Still looking to see if anyone else has met this problem and fixed it.

Couldn't find anything relating to this on Microsoft's web sites, and no response here, so I bought the upgrade to FrontPage 2002 - installed it and it shut itself down everytime I tried to edit a page. (I also installed IIP and patched that meantime).

Knowing how MS software can sometimes need an SP to work (I tend to assume their first release is a beta) I patched FP to SP1 and then SP2 - success at last (I think).

I can edit and publish my web sites again - phew!!! Only fly is that the theme I used on my main site (www.intrescue.org) has been changed - same name as in FrontPage98 but a new design in FP2002. It means the whole look of the site has changed - but at least it's working.
