Looking for a (free) audio converter for converting MP3 stereo to AAC, with 5.1 channels. Anyone know
if such an animal exist in program form?

Best i've found is "Any Audio Converter"it will output to all channels but it took 2hours and 20 minutes
to convert 30 songs and only messed up 2 of them.
I have thousands that need to be converted and i might not even be on the right
side of the grass by the time that finished. :)

    thanks,
    savagcl

    TonyT,

tried that freac converter. While it did convert to AAC, the output was always 2 channel and i could only hear
the voice in a null setting. It did run a lot faster tho.

Using dbpoweramp converter, i could get 6 channels, 24 bit, 44.1 kHz but it showed as a M4A extension.
Codex was apple lossless, I don't do apple if there is any other way. :)

Thanks for the info, i'll keep looking.

    TonyT,

Pazera - works great and fast! It does support 5.1 output.
The output sounds great and the file sizes almost equal.

Just what I needed. Thanks a lot TonyT.

The other sites are pretty deep stuff, I'll have to study\try them.

    Good news!
That program uses ffmpeg, as do most all other open source and freeware converters.
    Have fun...
