Use WinXP Home Sp-3 and IE 8.0. I sometimes receive an e-mail with an attachment . When I try to open the attachment I get the following
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel "

Please give steps to accomplish this task.

Windows Explorer - Tools > Folder Options > File types

Scroll down to the file extension relating to the file you need to Associate and check the Opens with entry.

If the extension is not there create an association.
