My Spybot kept giving me a spy called DSO Exploit that I could not remove but I found the solution at:\

    http://www.pchell.com/support/dsoexploit.shtml

It is a harmless thing left over in IE before SP2 but this gets rid of it so that it is not annoying. Actually, Spybot shows the reg. entry at the right side of the screen that shows the entry to be deleted but to feel more secure read the article at the URL above.

Always back up the registry first for additional security.

i encountered the same problem and tried the suggestions you gave but didnt seem to work, i finally got rid of it by downloading a patch for my spybot. that did it perfect, it even updates it for other adware.

The newest version, 1.4, is listed as a beta version but seems to be stable and has been problem-free for me on 5 systems to this point. It includes the DSO patch and some other enhancements. Just do a google search for download spybot 1.4 and you will find a number of places to download it.

I don't know all the details but I think the v1.4 may be the reason the patch was pulled.
