    Hi everyone,

Out of nowhere, my FF 1.5 as well as 2.0 suddenly stopped working. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it several times. The symptom is that when I try to load most websites, it tries to connect, but eventually times out. Can someone PLEASE help me??? :(

    CrunchDude,

There are several workarounds in this KB Article for you to try:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_any_website#Error_loading_some_websites

Ensure that you have configured your Firewall to allow Firefox access to the Internet.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode, which does not load Extensions. It could be one of your extensions causing this problem. Ensure that all are compatible with the new Version 2.0. If you can access web sites in safe mode, then delete or disable your extensions one by one to determine which one(s) are causing the problem.

Let us know if any of the above works for you...

Thanks very much for your suggestions. I tried ALL of the above and it still doesn't work. :( I actually deleted all of my extensions and disabled my firewall. Nothing.

What I did do before this happened is do System Restore because of an unrelated problem. IE6, IE7 and Opera 9.02 all still work. Why is Firefox the only one that doesn't work? I also installed FF 1.5 on my Vista RC2 and it works great! Any more suggestions? I'd really like to have my FF working again on my XP SP2 OS.

I'm sure I'm overlooking a small thing that I'm not thinking of.

Alright, I fixed the problem myself. I am posting this, so it will hopefully help someone else in the future who has a smiliar issue.

    I uninstalled FF (of course)

I did a file and folder search on the partition that contained FF for "mozilla" and found a BOATLOAD of files that FF left all over the place and deleted them all after examining each. Except for the source file for FF 1.5.0.7. A few retarts were required as it wouldn't let me delete all of them in one shot.

I did a another file and folder search for "firefox" and nothing was found, so I got everything in my "mozilla" search

I did a registry scan, which found plenty of errors and repaired them.

I did another restart and reinstalled Firefox. After trying numerous other things, this did the trick and then some. The problem is not only resolved but Firefox, especially with FasterFox has never been faster.

I hope this helps someone at some point. If anyone would like to chime in as to whether I should or should not have done any of the above, please also post. :)

Uninstalling and reinstalling the program does little good, since the key info is located in the profile. If you deleted the Mozilla folder in Application Data, you would have deleted also the Firefox folder, and, of course, the profile(s) which are in it. The problem is that while Firefox is made of two components, in two different locations, System Restore disjointed the connections between the two components.IE6 and IE7, as well as Opera are not set up that way, so they would not be affected.
It is very important to be aware of the location of all components, and the profiles should be be backed up before a System Restore.

I didn't know that about Firefox. Well, so it seems I did the right thing anyway without knowing that I was supposed to?

You did it the hard way. Most other people would have been totally baffled, but you must know the way around.
