I had Firefox up and running for several days, then I added several plug-ins at once. Since then I cannot get Firefox to start. The task manager indicates that it is running in the background but I cannot see it. When I click on Firefox the screen goes black for 1.5 secs. then comes back on the in largest screen setting possible (sort of like in safe mode) but there is still no firefox. I've tried un-installing and then re-installing. I've tried clearing all traces, manually, from the registry and then re-installing. I tried a system restore! I don't know what to try. Mozilla nd I.E 6.0 both work fine. I seem to like Firefox better than Mozilla.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Ed,

Are you using a Theme other than the default? If so revert back to the default Theme. How about extensions, are you using extensions? What plugins did you install?

Let us know and perhaps we can figure out what's going on with your Firefox.

Fiirefox is now finally starting, but only after a 2 sec. blink to black. When it comes back the settings are on the very largest. After re-setting the settings the next browsers come up the regular size but still with that annoying blink. Also when I click on a link in OL 2002 the browser will open but OL will still ask me to locate the link browser. I removed all the extensions, plugins and downloads once I could get it open.

I first got it to open by using Run, Firefox - Safe Mode

    Ed,

Go to your ~/Profiles/profilename folder and delete the entire chrome folder. Hopefully that should fix your problem, but if not, then create a new Profile.

I did both of those things and FF is still changing the settings on the first opening.

Don't give up on my yet! Any other suggestions?

    Ed,

Could you be more specific on which settings keep changing?

    Also, check these settings:
Advanced - Disable: "Resize large images to fit in the browser window "
    Web Features - Enable: Java/JavaScript
Web Features - Click on Advanced tab and disable all options
General - Are you using the default settings?

What Windows Display settings do you use?
Start | Settings | Control Panel | Display

When I orginally open the FF browser after a reboot, the screen flashes (black for 2 sec) then re-appears with the setting 640 x 480 (I usuall have it set on 1280 x 1024 pixels). After the 1st browser is opened, I alsays get the flash and I see the large setting browser for a flash, then the screen goes black and opens with the FF broswers the correct size. Also when I click on a link in OL 2002, the browser opens but OL still asks to locate the link browser.

I did change all the other settings like you advised. SIGH ... still no luck!

Which version Firefox are you using? And, you say that you created a new profile. How did you do that?

    Using 0.9.2

Go to My Computer, Local Disk (C), Documents and settings, (whichever user you are), application data, Mozilla, Firefox, then change default user profile to whatever name you want.

Changing the name of the profile on the hard drive won't do. If I remember correctly it either goes back to the original name, or nothing will work, because the hard drive and FF don't talk to each other. This is true with Netscape7.x or Mozilla. I am not sure about FF, but in general the Profile Manageer should be accessible from Start|Run|C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -p
Make sure that there is a space between the final e of exe and the minus.
Select Create Profile, and enter a name which you want.
Initially the profile manager will come up, but if everything is cool, you can select not to bother you.
This should give you a new start without extentions which are locked.
