I have started using Firefox about 3 months ago and really like the browser. However, sometimes I experience an irritating problem. When I type the address of a website and press Enter, I am take to the Control page of the site (which you normally access typing http://control.sitename.com). Sometimes reloading the site a couple of times helps but most of the times I give up in frustration before having any success and revert back to IE :-( which never give this problem.

I have logged it as a "bug" on the Firefox website but have not received any reply. What am I doing wrong? I use FF1.04.

    Thanx
    Cobus

    Hi Cobus,

What, exactly, do you mean by "control page "? I've never heard of such a thing.

I've been using Firefox for over two years, and never have experienced what you're talking about. If I type http://control.<anysite>.com into the address window, I get a message telling me that the site cannot be found.

I use the zipped nightly Aviary builds, now at 1.0.5, as I firmly believe that they cause fewer problems than the installer builds. I'd suggest that you do the following:
    1. download the current zipped build

    2. uninstall Firefox

    3. delete the Firefox program folder (not your profile folder)

    4. use a program such as RegSeeker to clean your registry of all references to Firefox and Mozilla

    5. unzip the downloaded FF build to a location of your choice, and make sure your shortcuts reflect that location

    6. run the program

I'm betting that your problem will disappear. If it doesn't, perhaps it's time for a new profile.
