Today, for the first time, I got the above window on start-up.

It read: There is a file folder called "C:\Progran" which could cause certain applications to not function correctly. Renaming it to "C:\Program1" would solve this problem. Would you like to rename it now?

Then you are given boxes to check that read: "Don't perform this check at start-up" or "Rename" or "Ignore "

I chose to ignore because I didn't know for sure what was the right thing to do. My question is: What is the right thing to do?

It sounds like a punctuation issue.
Check the properties of the shortcuts in Start>Programs>Startup to be sure that they have opening and closing quotation marks. For example, a shortcut leading to:
    C:\Program Files\Program.exe
will look for a folder named "Program ", while one named:
    "C:\Program Files\Program.exe "
will look for "Program Files ".

Also go to Start>Run and type: msconfig. Check the punctuation there, too, in your startup programs.

I don't understand the first part of your response. I don't have startup on my start menu. On the second part, most of the programs on startup don't have a quotation mark except for a few old or no longer used programs. In fact, one of the old and unused programs had a lower case c.

Probably, the easiest answer for me would be what box I should check on the startup message that I receive. I am not very computer literate.

Choosing "Yes" to renaming to see if that solves the problem is not an irreversible choice, so try it!

I will do that next time I restart my puter and post back if it doesn't resolve the problem, Thanks.
