    Hi.
A very Merry Christmas to all.

I am running w98 and have several problems.
    1) I have several programs in my c:\download that I can not open as it goes though to the box asking which file extension to use and of course I havn't that file extension to open it with, How can I get the file ext to enable me to open these programs? ie exe.cfm.

    2) I have tried to download 'ad-ware' but when I try I get the 'Eudoradownload' box and then it freezes up so I end up having to give it the 3 finger salute and shutting the site down, Is there a way of setting downloads default to c:\downloads. and why is it freezing up? Is it as spyware is already on the puter and stopping the download. or am I being paranoid?

    3) I have tried to load 'Harry Porter' form my Grandson's CD but it only gets to about 42-43% then stops loading and won't go any further even after approx 1/2 hr ?

I have AVG as the virus checker and is kept up to date and run every day.

    Thanks all.

    1. CFM ColdFusion template
CFM Visual dBASE Windows customer form
    CFM Corel FontMaster file

    2. What do you mean by 'eudoradownloadbox'. Try rt clicking the download link and then from the contect menu that pops up select 'save target as'. Then select the location where to save the download.

    3. hanging install could =
    a. overload system (not enough free resources or memory)
    b. bad install application (poorly coded by the programmers)
    c. anti-virus program interferes with install cause it scans all files during the install causing system to hang, see 'a' above. It is recommended to close ALL programs during software install, except explorer and system tray of course. Really only necessary to do that with installs of larger apps like games etc.
    d. a hundred other reasons, but my guess would be the above.

This link and sublinks may help you figure out which program will open an extension:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25140&highlight=which+program

Winzip may give you better control over how and where your programs wind up when you download them:

And as suggested installing any software has "do's and don't's ". A good habit to form is to make sure all un-needed background running applications are not running, particularly virus scanners. This is after you have prescanned any floppy, burned CD, or net download prior to installing.

Hang ups come from many causes. Harry Potter is, I'm assuming, a fairly recent program/game/whatever and your own computer must meet the minimum system requirements for the program. This may be memory, free space, versions of directs-graphic adapter-operating system(windows.xx), CDrom, general maintenance and condition of system such as clean temp folders, updates to all components (versions are a judgment call based on age of hardware and Computer specs)...etc.
NOTE*if this is an older cd, clean it. Bad/dirty/scratched areas of cd can cause hangs.

Tip:In some cases, if a cd install is problematic, it may help to copy the cd to a folder "Holder" on the harddrive (a folder made just for this type of CopyNpaste_install_from_harddrive procedure). Installs from the harddrive can, oft times, go more smoothly.

And as asked: "Endora download box "???? I thought Endora was an email program. Why would any download, other than email, be going to such a box?
