When I finish filling in data in a row and hit return how do I make the cursor jump to the first column in the next row?

    Have a play with ....

Tools > Options > Edit & check 'Move selection after enter' & select an option from the dropdown menu.

That just moves the cursor to the cell under the cell I just entered data in. I want it to go down and then all the way to the left to the beginning of the next row so I can start the next record.

If I understand correctly you want to fill data into a row of cells across a spreadsheet and when you reach the last column you want the cursor to jump back to the first column, but one row lower. i.e. to the first empty cell in the first column ....

In Tools > Options > Edit check 'Move selection after Enter' and select down.

Type your data in the first cell and hit the Tab key to move to the next cell in the row.

When you reach the end column of that row, enter the data and hit the Enter or Return key and the cursor will jump back to the first column, one row lower.

OK Thanks Pete I was not using the tab key I was using the arrow or the mouse and that makes the cursor do something different.
