    Received error message KB823980 Could not verify update.inf make sure cryptographic service is running on this computer.
    Question: Where do I go to find wheter the crptographic service is running on this computer.

    Hello jim,

    Start > run > type services.msc > ok > scroll down to crypto services. Should be running and under type: automatic.

    If not, double click - the services properties dialog box will come up and can be started there.

    Hi Jim!

    Go to Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > Services and scroll down to Cryptographic Services.

    It should be set to "automatic" and listed as "started ".

    Thanks for the speedy response. Went to services and it was in the automatic mode. Having trouble installing a patch after removing for the fifth time the Blaster Worm. Unable to download a new upgrade of Norton due to the virus. Will try to download everything again. Thanks,
