I'm trying to delete reg key Vid_045a&Pid_5220 but I can't. I navigated this path H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet2\Enum\USB\Vid_045a&Pid_5220. When I tried to delete the key I got this message: ERROR DELETING KEY: Cannot delete Vid_045a&Pid_5220: Error while deleting key. Is there any way to delete this key? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Since CurrentControlSet is the active one and you will only ever use any part of ControlSet001 if you log on using the 'last known good configuration' and since rebooting and logging on will change the CurrentControlSet to ControlSet001 and create a new CurrentControlSet, why do you need to mess with the 2nd backup?

Highly unlikely it will be used prior to being deleted to make room for newer ones since that would mean that both the current and 001 were damaged and not usable..

All I want to do is delete a subkey of Vid_045a&Pid_5220 it was a USB device that I no longer have and I want to clear all references of the device from the reg. So is there a way to delete the sub key?

Good to hear. But unless you enjoy doing the extra work, CurrentControlSet is the only one you need to mess with. Gives a little added safety to leave ControlSet001 alone too since if things go really bad, you can always revert to it.

I'm retired so I have the time to goof around. Oh well let me go mow the lawn. Love the new forum. Except when I replied to your post I hit the wrong reply button, but, now I got the hang of it . Thanks for your help. It was just a simple giving a permission setting.

I'd love to retire. I'm old enough - just not rich enough. Ah well, soon. :D
