Using WIN 98 with Media Player version. Tried opening a video file and got an error notice of #80040154 - MCI error MMSYSTEM006. There is no driver installed on your system.

Then went to Microsoft Help looking for an answer to the error number and got as message of: "Sorry, no more help available for this problem at this time. "

Apparently I am missing a driver for this file but would anyone know what it is and where to obtain it?

Q: I'm getting the message "Class Not Registered" trying to play back content ... ?
Q: I'm getting "No such interface supported" (0x80004002) when trying to play back content...
A: You will need to reinstall WMP7 (on top of the existing install) in Reinstall All mode (the second checkbox on the options list during install). If you only have WMP 6.4 and are NOT on Win2K or WinMe:

    1. Download mpfull.exe (it's the download available here as "Windows Media Player 6.4 for Win95 and Win NT4 ").
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp
    2. Shut absolutely everything down (notably IE and any multimedia application).
    3. Delete (or rename) quartz.dll and devenum.dll from the system directory.
    4. Install mpfull.exe

  3. to hide this advert.

Tried following your instructions step by step.

    1. Downloaded the mpfull.exe file.
    2. Shut all down but Explorer and systray. Tried closing them down but when I did I lost all control and could not use either my mouse and/or keyboard. Had to reboot. This time I shut all down but those two.
    3. Added OLD in front of the two files quartz.dll and devenum.dll.
    4. Installed mpfull.exe.

Now nothing; no music at all from any of my MIDI files and or the AVI files. At least with version 9 of Media player I could at least open my MIDI files. What would you suggest next?

The instructions said to do that "f you only have WMP 6.4. The sentence before that said to "reinstall WMP7 (on top of the existing install) in Reinstall All mode (the second checkbox on the options list during install)."

Since you have WMP9 you could try reinstalling it. Someone with either WMP7 or WMP 9 could help you more.
