I have XP Home and Adobe Reader 7.0. The last update I received on 7.0 was almost a year ago. Adobe Reader 8 version is now out but after downloading it would not install. Instead I received the following "Error 1714. The older version of Adobe Reader 8 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group "
How can it be removed if it is not installed in the first place?

    Help please.

To Whiskeyman....thank you for your prompt reply. I have printed the Tech Note and will follow the instructions. Should not have any problems now. Thanks again.

To Whiskeyman---- Unable to remove. Went into control panel, add or remove, clicked on Adobe Reader 7.0.7, window came up "the installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it" There are two updates also which cannot be removed.

I then went in to Run, regidit, HKEY Current User, software, Adobe, Acrobat Reader...which brought up 7.0. Going into Adobe Acrobat brought up 6.0.

I am at a loss of what to do next as I do not want to do anything with the registry.

    Any ideas?

Click the Change button instead of the Remove button and repair the installation. Once that finishes then try to remove it.

I have tried those and I downloaded the last thing but it has so many warnings about deleteing the wrong things I am afraid as I have no idea on what to have it delete. Do you know which one(s)?

Just click on Adobe Reader to highlight it then click the remove button. Make sure only Adobe Reader is highlighted!!! Once done click the Exit button.
