    Hi Folks,

I have an Epson C82 that is not printing properly. It isnt used much and i have done all of the usual nozzle and head cleaning tests several times.

I have been to the Epson website and downloaded the Status Monitor but the ink levels in print preferences still remained ghosted out so im unable to see how much ink i have left.

As after the last nozzle check the "ink low" light has now started flashing i need to know which cartridge is empty.

Been to Windows update and there is no new driver available. I have uninstalled the printer and re-installed using Windows XP auto detect when connecting the USB.

Still no joy. Has anyone any further suggestions please?

    All comments most welcome

    Cheers!

    A Lowe UK

I believe that if you let Win detect the printer, and load it that way, some features are not available. I think the ink level status is one of them. You have to use the Epson install disk. Remove the printer software, uninstall. Shutdown, physically disconnect the printer, reboot. Shutdown again, connect the printer, reboot, when the "new hardware detected" appears, click cancel. Then put in your Epson disk, it should autodetect.

Andrew - Welcome to the Board :)

Epson printers are very 'picky' as to how the driver is installed - if you did not follow the method outlined below I suggest you uninstall the printer and Status Monitor and start over.

This method is used for the 1270 and similar printers - I expect the C series is similar.

Connect the printer to the PC via the USB cable, plug it into the mains, but do not turn on the power to the printer.

Load the printer driver - once this is loaded you should be instructed to switch on the printer. The printer will then be configured to a printer port - a message confirming this should be displayed.

Install the Status Monitor. I do not know exactly what the Status Monitor shows on a C series printer. Are you using genuine Epson cartridges?

    Drivers here:
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=14417

Suggest you try and completely remove the old drivers before installing the new ones.

Boot into Safe Mode. Remove any listing in Add/Remove programs. Go to Settings > Printers. Right-click on the printer and select "delete ". (Delete any other old printers listed). Could reboot to Safe Mode and run the new drivers program there.
