    Hi,

Because of an exhange in another thread in "Discussion," I am now wanting to send Wildfire and a fellow member some large files.

I recall being able to do this using a special feature in FX if the other person had it as well. But I think it got gone.

I just Googled and found this freeware which looks too good to be true:
    http://www.pando.com/

Does anyone know about any such freewares which are viable and safe?

    THANKS!

    Jilly,

Email was originally intended for direct communication not transferring large files, even if you find a solution at your end to send, here there is restrictions.

My mailbox is 50MB and as long as your attachment is less than that my ISP will accept it (emails in there, yes even yours are only 2-3Mb), however other ISP's may reject emails over 1Mb.

Your best bet would be to post the attachment on a website or FTP server (you could even host your own). Failing those choices use a splitter and send them as smaller emails (1Mb should be ok). Google FTP Server or File Splitter, I'll assume you know how to set up a webpage if your provider supplies one.

Joining this site appears to mean I will never sleep again. lol

Re the above, I got the free version; did not like the hard sell stuff in the installation; i chose...despite the nag screens urging me to get the paid version during the installation, I passed and also did not permit the Outlook add on given I do not use Outlook.

Thing installed. It arrived with a huge file named Xboni. I am sure, a reputable thing from Calif involving making of groups of people who communicate simpler, maybe some 12-step New Age program, lol... and essentially, to me at least, useless merda.

These appeared as separate apps in Add/remove. I uninstalled the Xboni, then looked at what i thought I still wanted and had retained, the Pando... in Explorer, and it appeared the two had been inexorably entwined......so I got rid of that too.

Took me to the home site at start of uninstallation; I was told that humans who do what I was about to, regret the decision until they die, at which point they go directly to hell. lol I did not bother with the "WHY ARE YO DOING THIS?" If they do not get they are heavy handed, pushy and inelegant and do not inspire trust.....I ain't gonna convince, them, OK?

But it's a Journey. I am determined to find a good, safe app to enable me to send huge files.....and if anyone runs the above one and just adores it, I would be most interested to hear details.

Rats! It appears there are many wondrous apps enabling sending big files! I can only attach up to 9MBs.

I hear you, Paddy, but I am going to do a little more digging.....cause back in the dya, I got huge files from a guy, Paul who lives in the UK who knew Firefox inside and out. And it worked! Both people hadda arrange stuff, but truly, FX used to have that option!

I have avoided setting up a site always....and recently canceled my memership even on Facebook! I also weaned myself off texting in the last 4 months.....cause it is compromising human communication.

I am tellin ya, FX used to afford this! That is how I got one Penguin movie. It is the usual almost 800MBs.

Ok I just got the Sonicfile. I LOVE IT, Ok?

    http://downloads.world-database.com/sonicfile--send-large-files-in-email.encryptomatic-llc.html

It installed in no time, the interface is open, and I am about to test it by sending you, Wildfire, Lewis Black, Red White & (rhymes with) Shrewd, just replace the h with a c.

    File is 350 MBs.

I am positive this will work, do you hear me, Wildfire? I am WILLING it TO WORK, AND IT WILL.

And you do Not need to do GET or DO anything special at your end. Does this make sense? Of course not!!!!!

But you gotta BELIEVE, and please get beyond the minutae of the theoretical so we can leave the runway and get AIRBORNE HERE, ok?

OK I did have to make an account. they have many options for a given month depending on the total size you wanna pay for. but to get 1000mBs total for the month is only $4.99.

I am in the process of checking out now. People, TRUST ME, THIS WORKS. OK, it is not free. But common. Know what you can get in my neighborhood for five dollars? A gallon of soy milk Not even, it's actually a little more.

I LIKE THIS THING! It will WORK.

    Are we excited yet?:D

OK, my account is active and I can sent up to 1000MGs in the next 30 days starting....NOW. Wheels up, we are airborne.

Edit: Wow. the progress bar moved along to load the file and reached the top. then, the percentages of transfer began. Will take some time, but compared to what?

Everyone should ask Santa for this thing! I see you can add to your account whenever you want and buy varying amounts of size to send within a given month. If you only do this infrequently, I think it is an amazing thing to have and very cost effective.

You do not GET how they do this! You think you do not have exciting things to learn? You just wait. t.The internet service provider...is MOOT

Little over 26 mins to go. Anyone with an email address can receive it. I just happened to send it to you!

I am going to morph you into an optimist if it's the last thing I do; you deserve morE JOY.:D

    For everyone's info:

How will the recipient know I sent him files?
Your recipient(s) will receive an email notification and instructions to retrieve the files you sent them.

    6. Does the recipient have to install software before they can receive files?

No. When the recipient opens the link in the email they received they can download the files directly from their browser. However, they can make use of the SonicFile's built-in accelerator if they have the client software installed.
    ********************************************
    Finished!

Then, said "verifying files ", then, I got windows saying "Your files were sent successfully." Yayyy!

Now, Wildfire, when you get the email and the app tells you the simple steps to receive the file and you receive it and see it plays and you park it in My Movies in your system, then you can start new adventure, given all you know which I never will.....of figuring out exactly how & why this works, and educated we, non staff members here, who do not understand it, but knew intuitively it would!:D

We are all in this together, yes?:)

You will ADORE this thing! It runs around an hour.

HOLD IT! If you choose, you can buy and download a movie from a movie download SITE, RIGHT? You can either stram one live or actually buy it and download it. Well how do you think THAT works? This....is the SAME THING. I am pretty sure!

It works with your BROWSER. Two magics in two days: first the VLC player, and now this!

    (Animated eureka smilie.)

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I mentioned putting it on a webpage earlier.

Jilly, I stand by my comments. The only thing emailed was a small message saying go to such and such and download this file.

People often wonder why I only give out spam trap addresses online, I think you've answered them. Sonicfile now have my and your email address, I wonder what they'll do with them

FWIW the service does work, downloading now ;)

Just came in and saw this.

Paddy, regardless of the rpms at which I spin, I am a discerning human. This is not some nefarious company in Nigeria whose goal in life is to hack into anyone's system or sell their personal info or spam them to death. I have an ACCOUNT; i paid a tiny sum. they make profits, they do not need to go the Faust route as per poor Iobit, OK?

In the tech stuff, you are a veritable pundit, but we need, perhaps, to work a little on and mitigate the needlessly negative stuff, and troubleshoot the origins. Most enlightened people do this and it is a privilege. We are works in progress. We are wondrous, complex humans who use technology FAAAR less complex than we.

Most upsetting to me of all.....you are missing THE JOY!!
You are ENTITLED TO THAT, THE JOY.

And, when you stop associating this exciting chronology of events bearing NO DANGER and no downside... with Global Warming & The Ebola Virus.....you will hopefully post, explaining how this works. Will be very interesting to learn about....but no way AS....as WE who use the technology.

Finally, if you haven't seen this filmed live performance at some point....you are in for huge delight, i promise you! But you must give yourself Administrator's Privileges For Real, in the OS inside.;)

    Warmly, Jilly :)

And I am pretty sure, I explained I do not have a webpage and I ADORE discovering new options which are more direct, make the best possible use of the technology and waste less time!!!!! iT IS THRILLING.

    3. How safe are the files I send with SonicFile?

All files are encrypted and transmitted over a SSL (secure socket layer) connection to a secure data centre in Texas.

It works by you sending the file to sonic, they put it on the net and send me an email with the link.:D

You did not send me the file, I had to download it ;)

    You too Jilly,

Although a chatterbox at times you're a refreshing addition to these boards, Merry Xmas :D

I did, totally sent the file. And this adorable thing I unearthed with such joy is a vast improvement over posting a big file you would still have to download as you would from a movie site.... on a public website! And far, FAR safer!

And Paddy, everything we send by email goes to a server...no exceptions. Nobody sends anything on the net via some linear, ISOLATED conduit/carrier pigeon, right? This was just a fabulous way of circumventing the impediments some people:rolleyes: accept.

When someone sends you an attached file within the truncated limits of our email programs, you have to download THOSE, Paddy. And even a 3 word email gets sent to a server.

You download hotfixes, installers for all apps....and sometimes, when we update databases for those apps we get stuck, why? Because the company's SERVER IS OVERLOADED.

Give props and celebrate and let me go on celebrating! This is not a contest, babe, it's All Good.

And I will tolerate the left handed compliment (I am, after all, left handed:)) whose premise is the "chatter" is arbitrary vs. relevant, if free associative, but will not share the remark with my Editors or clients,

Now let us see if you can, hopefully find the entitlement to enjoy what I sent.:) Think of it as a little Xmas gift from across The Pond.

Sonicfile is a part of Web Mind. They are in FL.

    http://www.webminds.com/

They, Web Mind issued my receipt for my $4.99 for one GB of file in 30 days.

One could send 50GBs in a given month for$29.99. Over TWICE the volume of the total files in each of my HDDs!!

You pay as you go and your needs dictate, however infrequently; yr contract is for one month, period. they have features no other conduit does. It's all delineated on the sonicfile site. I feel very sad now I need to defend this thing.

I am pancaked, need to go uptown, and I will now mark this thread 'Outta Gas." well, the site's equivalent. ;)
