Hi All, ............. My normal daily procedure for checking my mail is: turn the computer on, open Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 and then process any new mail. Usually there will be some. Sometimes while processing or with Thunderbird still open but minimized I'll get an audio and visual indication that new mail has arrived. However, no new mail is in the Inbox. I've tried several things to get this new mail: close Thunderbird and reopen, shut the computer off then back on and reopen Thunderbird, but there is no increase in the Inbox mail. This situation has existed for several weeks, probably since upgrading to TB to its present status.

Aware that a large Inbox file could cause trouble, (mine had about 45 MB in it), I emptied the Inbox file to zero bytes, then sent two messages to myself, These came through with the audio and visual indicators functioning. Today while working on this problem, the same false alarm happened as stated above. I don't know whether this is a server (verizon.net) or a Thunderbird problem. I have not checked with Verizon yet since I can receive mail from them. I'm open to any suggestions as to how to further investigate this condition.

In first place an Inbox of 45 MB is not so bad. I don't use an audio indicator, but how do you determine that new mail is in? When I open TB, left mouseover tells me which account new mail (I use at least five different accounts). I, rarely, keep TB minimized, but if I do after having checked for mail the envelope icon will disappear.

Westside, ................ Thank you for the prompt reply. I realize that the 45 MB Inbox file is not excessive, but after remembering your responses to some horror stories about gigabyte contents, I wanted to eliminate the Inbox contents as a possible problem source.
Since I only have one account, I rely on the visual and audio signals or if I'm testing something I click on Get Mail after sending to myself. Usually after opening TB the first time of the day, TB will contain new mail. It is after this time that the false alarm presents itself.
