    Hello everyone,

I have had my DVD-Rom in my computer for quite some time now. And just recently it has become quite an annoyance. The sound is choppy when i playback a dvd. I already uninstalled the drivers and then rebooted my computer and they installed themselves again, since it is a plug and play, and STILL it doesnt work right. Here are the Specs for my computer

OS is Windows XP Home Edition
Graphics are Intel Extreme Graphics Controller 82845G series
Intel Pentium 4 Processor CPU 2.5 ghz
    And a Sony CD-RW drive CRX215E5

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanx!

ShortStuff - Welcome to the Board :)

Which drivers? Sound card or DVD-ROM or both?

Do you have a separate sound card or onboard sound on the motherboard?

I suggest you remove the sound card if it is a PCI card, clean the contacts with a soft pencil eraser and refit it. At the same time uninstall any software which applies to the card and reinstall it. If you have onboard sound there is likely to be software which applies to that - uninstall and reinstall.

Uninstall and reinstall the DVD player software, it is possible that a file has become corrupted.

Have you checked the connections to your speakers - unplug them and plug them in again.

Is the sound OK if you play an audio CD?

The sound was fine when i would play an audio CD, but it just recently started messing up the sound on an audio CD as well. I uninstalled the drivers for the DVD-Rw and i updated the drivers for my sound card, since it is an on board sound card. My sound card is a Realtek AC97 Audio. One of my friends also said to make sure that I have the right amount of memory set for my drive to work...does she mean like to the actual DVD-RW drivbe or for the programs i have for DVD playback?

A couple of settings you should check ....

In Device Manager expand the DVD/CD-ROM drive entry and right click on your DVD drive > Properties Tab and toggle the 'Enable digital CD audio ....' and see what effect that has you will need to exit out and play something between times of course to see the effect, if any. (screenshot)

Also in Device Manager expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and right click on Secondary IDE channel - which I guess is the one your DVD drive is attached to > Properties > Advanced Settings and check that 'Use DMA if available' is selected. (screenshot). You can also check the Primary IDE controller.

I am not quite sure what your friend means by setting the amount of memory for the drive. I don't think it is a memory problem as the drive was working OK.
