uninstall everything that writes to dvd. then only install the 'main' writing app u have. then test. if ok, start installing other stuff. note - many apps will conflict. if u run into such, make a choice about the one u need. then find another app that will not conflict.

and ... clean install is a good idea if u haven't done such recently and have many burn apps.

little worried about the 'deleted' part as that's not uninstall but ... i'd say dump acoustica ;) but i'm not sure what it is or what it does. i don't use it.

in any event, since u'r machine would SEEM to have some problem, is not working to u'r satisfaction and has an issue that is not readily resolveable ... back up u'r data and blow the machine away ;) eg - reinstall it clean and then install u'r prog and test it. if it fails, i'd say dump the prog entirely and find one that does do what u wish w/o issue.

I would say the Daemon Tools program may have caused the problem. Maybe the moral is not to install too many programs that will effect the optical drives.

If you want to do a "try ", try this:
    Uninstall Acoustica. Reboot.
Go to Device Manager and uninstall any optical drives.
    Shutdown.
Open the case and disconnect the power and data cables to the optical drives.
Startup and go to the Windows desktop (check the drives are not listed in My Computer).
EDIT: At this stage I might go to Safe Mode and check that there is nothing listed under CD/DVD drives in Device Manager.
    Shutdown and reconnect the drives.
When you reboot reinstall the Acoustica program.

I just changed a CD-RW for a friend. It was not reading properly. I had to change from Nero 5 to Nero Express. I did the above method, but it took 3 uninstalls and reinstalls to get Nero Express to work.

By deleted i meant un-installed, using the uninstal programs provided with the programs. I tried the other thing. I made it all disappear in my computer, and in safe mode, by un-plugging the drives.

Then re-connected, installed acoustica. But no luck.

    Any other ideas?

oo, progress at last. Ive just been playing about with device manager, un installing and stuff with the IDE and Drives.

Anyway, i still cant burn but i have managed to read rollercoaster tycoon of a cd using the drive. Good news. However i am still un-able to burn. I am going to borow some different brand cds as soon as i can and try them out, as the drive clearly doesnt work with the media i have been trying.

I have also just tried a dvd in the drive and i have been able to erase the contents on the dvd, so it is being recognised. I have also been able to burn to a dvd.

I said about the brand of the cd. But i have recently found some cds that i burnt previously and my computer still will not recognise them. It definately would before because i burnt them and now it wont. This is really confusing me :/

Ive said this loads of times now but o well....
    Any ideas?

    Thanks

You had some success with the IDE controllers. Look for updated drivers for your motherboard/chipset and try doing some uninstalling/reinstalling with those.

Try installing and uninstalling the Daemon Tools again. During installation, if it asks to reboot do so, but uninstall as soon as you get back to Windows.

    hmm.
Ive just been messing about with some stuff tying to fix things, playing with drivers ect.

I found this program at http://www.drivershq.com/. It tells me what bad drivers i ahve and stuff. Well most of ym drivers came up as bad ones. It wont let me get the new ones thought because i would have to pay for that. But it could be of some use anyway. It cam up with the following:
    IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
    VIA Bus Master IDE Controller

    Universal Serial Bus controllers
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller

    IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers
VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

    Sound, video and game controllers
Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller

    Network adapters
VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller

All as bad drivers. I immediatley noticed the VIA chipset one and went on a search for the driver. Found it at http://www.driverfiles.net/page,show,18379,,VIA Bus Master IDE Controller ,search.html (you may have to be registered to view)

So i went ahead and downloaded it. I unzip it and run it, but i get a 16bit Windows Subsystem error.
"C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt. They system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose Clsoe to terminate the application. "

:( What does this mean, and is there anyway that i can get around this problem? Because i feel that this could be close to the solution.

    Thansk guys
