I need a little help, I have a Win2000 Pro laptop with a DVD-Rom, I can read CDs, CD-Roms, DVDs but not DVD-Roms. I get a "D:\ is not accessible" message. I can not find anything that might cause this issue. If anyone can help, please do.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

Try blowing the dust out of the drive and or get a drive cleaning kit.

In these units there is a single glass lens
    They get covered in dust
Try blowing it out - compressor , compressed air.
Its pretty easy to spot a round glass eye about 1/4 of an inch or less across
They are pretty hardy so they are seldom scratched
Some people don't like the cleaners as they may scratch the lens
You might find them in a dollar cheap cheap
The liquid solution they use is just rubbing alcohol methanol
If you cannot find a kit - reasonably priced try some of this on a dvd or cd
Also try some cds to read
DVDs scratch easily and the unit may have trouble reading them
Also take into account that there are two types of dvds + and -
Perhaps it only reads one format and you have the wrong type
At the worst replace the unit
If you need to a dvd burner on sale is the cheapest way to buy dvd roms
DVD roms are not made anymore , but you may find an older combo unit that no one wants
    - dvd rom ,cd burner reader
just make sure when you install it the jumper settings match the old one
Also make sure the cables are in tight on both ends , perhaps swap cables to test
