I have a DVD that someone burned that will not play in one of our PCs. It plays fine in all the others. When I try to play it, it crashes, whether using Windows Media Player (9, 10, or 11), Real, or PowerDVD (which came with the machine).

In Real, the program just hangs immediately. In WMP or PowerDVD, it crashes. In the Application Event Log, I get Event ID: 1000, Faulting application wmplayer.exe, faulting module ntdll.dll, fault address 0x0001142e. The DrWatson report says the exception generated was c0000005 at address 7c91142e (ntdll!wcsncpy).

I can make the error happen at will even if there is no disc in the drive by clicking on WMP Options | DVD tab | Advanced button. Boom.

    Help!

Removing and reinstalling the video driver didn't help. Removing and reinstalling WMP didn't help. Removing and reinstalling PowerDVD did!
