I set up dual monitors on my XP system, and it works ok with only a couple of applications. However, Most applications will not Drag and Drop to the 2nd monitor. I have the primary and secondary, and enable desktop box checked on the secondary monitor.
Is ther another setting that would allow me to drag applications to the second monitor ? I would like to be able to open them on the primary monitor, then drag them over to the secondary monitor. Any suggestions ? Thank's.

I have used and set up several dual- and quad-monitor systems and I've never seen any application that would not drag to the secondary monitor.

What applications are these that will not cooperate?

Thank's for following up. Evidently, I did not realize that you must resize, then drag over, when the 2nd monitor is smaller than the primary. I have a 17" primary, and a 15" secondary.
    Thank's

Does anyone know how to set the displays to different resolutions or of any 3rd party software to install that will allow this?

I want to run 1024x768 on one monitor and 800x600 on the other.

Operating system is XP Pro with 1xAGP card and 1xPCI card, P4 1800/512Mb RAM.

    Thanks,

    Andy.

I think it is determined by your Video card. I have XP pro and Geoforce FX 5200 card and the drop down fields in the settings area gave me the option to select different resolutions.

    Hi Andy

A 3rd party program that should do it is Ultramon
It's not free ($40:eek: ), but see what the trial (30 days) is like. Worked OK for me, but I only have the one VGA card.

    my 2 bits

I purchased a Matrox GS450 Dual head PCI for use in my Dual CPU server system I wanted to use as a workstation.

Unfortunately the GS450 is intended for Intel chipsets and would blue screen the system at any setting other than 640x480x16 colors. So I tried something else. - I found a Appian Graphics Jeronimoâ„¢ 2000 which used the old 3Dlabs Permidia 3 processors on a PCI card. (I loved this card!)

I used it with the factory drivers with W2k and it was fully PnP supported in Xp. - It did allow for setting the screen sizes independantly.

The Matrox GS450 was a major disappointment as not only does it want to keep the same resolution for each monitor - it also requires the same refresh rates. So unless you have a matched pair of displays - avoid the Matrox.

Not so if you use a G550 - mine is running 22" and 17" CRT's = IIyama and CTX at different resolutions and colour depths and - if required, refresh rates. XP Pro SP1 with Via chipset and AMD processor (of course :))

It's some time since I ran a G450 and never dual head, but when the drivers/software for the G550 are loaded the question is asked 'same res. on both or not?'

    RE: PeteC

I guess I should clairify - I also used the GS450 with a single Monitor and in that mode it rocked!

The GS550 had not come out yet, or I would have jumped on it.
